VSB Technical university Ostrava
VŠB-TUO is a leading Czech technical university with strong focus on defence and security research, including cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, safety engineering and industrial resilience.
VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB-TUO) is one of the largest and most important technical universities in the Czech Republic, located in Ostrava in the Moravian-Silesian Region, a traditional industrial and innovation hub. Founded in 1849, the university has evolved into a modern research-oriented institution with a strong focus on engineering, applied sciences, and technological innovation.
The university comprises 7 faculties, including the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Economics, Mining and Geology, Safety Engineering, and Materials Science and Technology. Across these faculties, VŠB-TUO educates approximately 20,000 students, including a growing number of international students, and employs a strong academic and research staff engaged in both fundamental and applied research.
In the field of defence and security, VŠB-TUO plays an increasingly important role as a provider of expertise and innovative solutions for modern security challenges. A particularly significant role is played by the Faculty of Safety Engineering, which focuses on crisis management, industrial safety, fire protection, risk analysis, protection of critical infrastructure, and emergency preparedness. The university also contributes to cybersecurity, energy security, and resilience of industrial systems through interdisciplinary research across multiple faculties.
VŠB-TUO maintains strong cooperation with industry, public administration, security forces, and international research institutions. It is actively involved in European research programmes such as Horizon Europe and contributes to projects addressing dual-use technologies, resilient infrastructure, advanced materials for defence applications, and digital security systems.
Thanks to its strong industrial heritage, close ties with the Moravian-Silesian industrial region, and growing emphasis on innovation and international collaboration, VŠB-TUO represents a key partner for research, development, and implementation of technologies relevant to defence, security, and critical infrastructure protection.
