The popularity of electric cars in the Czech Republic is growing rapidly. From the beginning of the year to the end of July, people bought 7980 battery electric cars, which is 60 percent more year-on-year. Most often it was Škoda cars. The share of electric vehicles in the domestic market with new cars reached 5.6 percent, last year they had a 4.2 percent share in seven months. This is according to data from the Centre for Transport Research.
From January to July, people registered 143 456 new passenger cars in the Czech Republic, which is five percent more year-on-year. Battery electric cars with a proportion of 5.6 percent were the third most common choice after gasoline and diesel powertrains, plug-in hybrids had a share of 4.1 percent. Cars on LPG then 2.6 percent.
“The most significant year-on-year increase in registrations in the battery electric vehicle segment was recorded by the Škoda brand, which gained a market share of 35.4 percent and the position of the market leader in the segment. Tesla, which was in first place last year, showed a year-on-year decline of 37 percent, which led to a decrease in its market share from 39.3 percent to 15.6 percent,” said CDV Director Jindřich Frič.
In seven months, people have also registered 708 light commercial vehicles, which include vans and trucks up to 3.5 tons, up 468 more year-on-year. Their market share was 6.3 percent.
People or companies registered 64 trucks, 54 more year-on-year, the market share was 1.2 percent.
Sales of hybrid cars are also growing. In the first half of this year, according to data from the Association of Automobile Importers, they increased by more than a fifth to 31 703 vehicles.
Among the most sold hybrid brands, Toyota still leads with 5988 cars, the second is Skoda Auto with 4496 units, and Mercedes-Benz finished third with 2453 hybrid cars sold until the end of June.
