Cairo has again a line to Prague after 13 years operated by EgyptAir

Egyptair launches regular flights between Cairo and Prague. The new line will be operated three times a week from July 9, 2024.

According to the published flight schedule, MS790 will depart from Prague every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 16:20 with an arrival at the main Cairo International Airport at 20:55. In the opposite direction, MS789 will depart from Cairo on the same days at 12:20 p.m. Landing at Václav Havel Prague Airport is always planned for 15:20.

Egyptair will deploy a Boeing 737-800 with a two-class cabin layout on the route. 16 seats will be available in business class, another 138 seats will be in economy class. Tickets for the new route to Prague can be booked on the Egyptair website and by other ticket sellers. The price of a return ticket in economy class is around EGP 18,000.

Thanks to the new Egyptair line, passengers from Egypt will have a direct connection with Prague, as well as an easier option of flying to other European destinations.

The direct air connection between Cairo and Prague has a long tradition. ČSA started operating a regular line to Cairo as early as 1947. The line was stopped after more than sixty years in 2011 as part of the cancellation of ČSA lines. Since then, Prague has had no direct air connection with Cairo, and passengers had to fly to the Egyptian capital only with a transfer. Last August, Smartwings announced that it would fly from Prague to Cairo from November. Although the Czech carrier obtained the necessary transport rights, it eventually withdrew from its plans due to weak demand.

Egyptair flights at Prague Airport also have a long tradition. In 1962, the company then operating as United Arab Airlines started flights to Prague. The company deployed its then modern DH104 Comet 4C aircraft on the new line continuing to Moscow. From the end of the 1960s, the company operated flights to Prague and Moscow as two separate lines. In the 1970s, Egyptair also used its Boeing 707, but also Ilyushin Il-18 and Tupolev Tu-154, on the Prague route under its current name. In 1976, the company ended its regular flights to Prague.

Egyptair returned to Prague only after the beginning of the new millennium, when its planes began to appear on charter flights with tourists. In 2021, the company started regular flights to Prague again, when it opened a regular route from the Egyptian resort of Hurghada.
