The industrial-technological group Czechoslovak Group (CSG), owned by entrepreneur Michal Strnad and the owner of Croatia’s Đuro Đaković Holding, is expanding its portfolio in the key ammunition segment. For the Czech holding, this represents a strategically significant step, marking its first acquisition on the Austrian market while further strengthening the group’s production base in Europe.

The Austrian company HDS, whose history dates back to 1860, specializes in the development and production of complete mortar systems and ammunition in 60, 81, and 120 mm calibers. For CSG, this acquisition represents the vertical integration of a new segment that complements its existing production of large-caliber artillery ammunition. The deal also includes an Austrian production facility, enabling the group to increase overall output and respond more flexibly to the high demand for ammunition within NATO countries.

In addition to ammunition itself, CSG gains access to advanced technological know-how. HDS develops its own targeting and optical technologies, support equipment, and, above all, digital fire control systems (FCS). These systems enable precise targeting without direct line of sight and without reliance on external navigation networks such as GPS. Moreover, the technologies are fully integrable into modern digital battlefield management systems, increasing both accuracy and the speed of deployment in the field.

The acquisition aligns with CSG’s long-term strategy focused on controlling the entire supply chain. The integration of the Austrian manufacturer will allow the group to optimize the production of components and final products across all its facilities. By combining HDS’s development capabilities with CSG’s manufacturing strength, a comprehensive supplier is created, capable of offering complete mortar solutions, including logistical support for European and global customers.
