Czech company buys majority stake in Hungarian wind farm

Energy company Premier Energy has purchased a 51 percent stake in a large wind farm in Hungary.

Energy group Premier Energy has announced the acquisition of a 51 % stake in a 158 MW wind farm from Spanish energy company Iberdrola in Hungary.

The remaining 49 % stake will be acquired by Hungarian investment group iG TECH CC, which will bring local market knowledge. The transaction reached a total value of 128 million euros (3.1 billion crowns) and represents Premier Energy’s first major investment in power generation outside the markets of Romania and Moldova.

The acquired wind farm with 79 Gamesa turbines will produce approximately 300 thousand MWh of electricity per year and is located in northwestern Hungary in one of the windiest locations in Central Europe. The information was published by Premier Energy.

According to Premier Energy CEO José Garza, the Hungarian wind farm represents “approximately half of the total operational wind capacity” of the country and roughly a quarter of the capacity in the region encompassing Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. With this acquisition, Premier Energy will surpass 500 MW of its own renewable capacity across its markets.
