Supporting semiconductor sector is a priority of the Economic Strategy: Czech Republic to the Top 10 and the follow-up National Semiconductor Strategy.
One of the first outcomes of the trip of Minister of
Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček to the Republic of Korea is the conclusion of a
Memorandum on Cooperation in the field of semiconductor ecosystem development
with the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The Memorandum was
signed by Minister Vlček and his counterpart, Korean Minister Ahn, during the
meeting of the Czech-Korean Platform for Dialogue in the Supply Chain and
Energy Sector (SCED) on 17 February 2025.
Supporting this sector is a priority of the Economic Strategy:
Czech Republic to the Top 10 and the follow-up National Semiconductor Strategy” emphasizes
Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček on his success, which is
the negotiation of closer cooperation in the field of semiconductors.
Both the Czech and Korean sides confirm in the Memorandum their interest in strengthening the semiconductor ecosystems through an intensified bilateral cooperation. Together, they will actively promote the development of this strategic sector with an emphasis on strengthening the supply chain and joint industrial research and development.
Cooperation will include, inter alia:
South Korea dominates the semiconductor industry with strong technology giants such as the Samsung Electronics and the SK Hynix, which is one of the largest memory chip manufacturers in the world. Massive investment in research and development, advanced manufacturing technologies and a well-developed supply chain play a key role. The growth in demand for chips in areas such as AI, cloud computing and mobile technology further strengthens the Korea's position as a global leader in the semiconductor industry. The semiconductor sector is key to the country's digital and technological development.
“Our involvement in partnerships with Korean institutions and companies in this area will help strengthen the competitiveness of Czech industry and promote innovation in key technology sectors” added Petr Očko, Senior Director of the Digitisation and Innovation Section at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In the coming days, representatives of our Ministry will continue to hold talks with representatives of state and research institutions as well as with industrial companies to address specific projects of the Czech-Korean cooperation in the field of semiconductors.
