The iconic Czech brewery Budějovický Budvar has officially entered the Indian market, marking an important milestone for Czech brewing tradition in one of the world’s fastest-growing beer markets. The brand was formally introduced during a launch event in Chandigarh, organised by its Indian importer Agways International in March, 2026.
India’s beer market has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by an expanding middle class, urbanisation, and a growing interest in premium and imported beverages. With consumers increasingly exploring international brands and authentic beer styles, the entry of Budějovický Budvar comes at an opportune time.
The launch in Chandigarh represents the first step in building the brand’s presence in India. Known for its vibrant food and hospitality scene, the city offers an ideal environment to introduce Czech lager to Indian consumers who are eager to explore new tastes and international brewing traditions.
The import and distribution of Budějovický Budvar in India is handled by Agways International, which organised the official launch event. The company aims to position the Czech beer as a premium product within the Indian market, targeting high-end restaurants, hotels, and bars.
The opening remarks by the Czech Honorary Consul Mr. Chaudhary highlighted not only the cultural significance of Czech beer but also the broader economic relationship between India and the Czech Republic. The arrival of Budějovický Budvar demonstrates how traditional European brands continue to find opportunities in emerging markets. Such collaborations help promote Czech products abroad while strengthening commercial ties between the two countries.
The introduction of Budějovický Budvar to India signals a promising new chapter for the historic brewery. With the support of local partners and growing demand for authentic international beers, the brand has the potential to establish a strong presence in the Indian premium beer segment. For Indian consumers, the arrival of Budvar offers an opportunity to experience a piece of Czech brewing heritage—one that has been carefully preserved for more than a century.
With Budějovický Budvar now available in India, that tradition is ready to continue on a new continent.
