One of the top producers of magnetic conductors in the world, Gold Cup Electric Apparatus Co., Ltd., a Chinese firm, plans to open its first European manufacturing facility in Czechia. In the new energy sector, a former chocolate packaging plant will be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility that produces magnetic conductors for transformers, electric motors, and equipment utilising renewable energy sources. The investment will reach more than 82 milion EUR.
Gold Cup Electric Apparatus Co., Ltd. specialises in the development, research, and manufacturing of magnetic conductors, including paper-insulated and enamelled conductors as well as CTCs, or continuously transposed conductors. Gold Cup is a major integrated supplier of flat conductors used in traction electric motors that power modern electric cars, as well as a major supplier of ultra-high-voltage equipment for energy transmission and transformation in China.
An important step in the Gold Cup's global expansion, the planned facility in Planá marks the company's first foray into the manufacturing sector outside of Asia. In addition, it is a historic moment for Czechia, where these kinds of magnetic conductors will be produced for the first time.
Magnetic conductors for large and extra-large transformers and conductors for new-generation electric traction motors utilised in electric cars will be the main focus of operations in Planá. With an initial capacity of about 800,000 tonnes, production is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026. The overall yearly output volume will reach up to 20,000 tonnes when it reaches full capacity in 2028. There will be very little need for human physical labour in the fully automated production process.
To reduce effects on the community, production will take place in updated facilities with controlled logistics and noise levels. To lower its carbon footprint, the company intends to deploy roof-mounted photovoltaic panels to produce renewable energy, recycle materials, and implement energy-efficient procedures. The factory satisfies Czech and European standards and was developed in compliance with all environmental regulations.
This investment is very likely to have a positive impact on Czech exports albeit gradually over the years.
