The Czech car manufacturer has signed a huge contract with the Slovak side for the delivery of nearly 1,300 trucks. Other countries may also join the order, so the final volume could still increase.
The company Tatra Defence Systems (TDS) from the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) of Czech entrepreneur Michal Strnad has signed a separate framework agreement with the Slovak Ministry of Defense for the delivery of up to 1,289 Tatra Force military vehicles. According to the latest SIPRI anylysis, the group is the fastest-growing European company in the global arms market, which continues to benefit from higher defense spending. The financial framework of the contract for the ministry's needs amounts to up to 1.032 billion euros (over 25 billion crowns). ČTK was told this by CSG spokesperson Andrej Čírtek.
"This is a framework agreement that allows for the gradual placement of individual orders over the coming years. The Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic plans to order a total of 152 vehicles in 2026 under the new framework contract," Čírtek said.
According to him, the contract creates a long-term and
flexible framework for the gradual acquisition of up to 1,289 vehicles in 24
different configurations according to the current needs of the Slovak Armed
Forces. 'The key point is that other EU and NATO member states can also join
this contract and acquire special vehicles on the Tatra chassis using the EU
SAFE program for favorable financing of purchases,' a spokesperson said. The deliveries will include selected configurations of Tatra
Force military vehicles in 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 versions, primarily intended for
logistics, support, and special missions of the armed forces. The car manufacturer Tatra Trucks produces serial trucks and
custom-made special vehicles in Kopřivnice in the Nový Jičín district in Czech Republic. It
manufactures vehicles and chassis for the civilian sector as well as for use in
the military or emergency services. Last year, it sold 1,548 vehicles.
