India and Czechia Strengthen Diplomatic Engagement

India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met with Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2026, highlighting the growing momentum in diplomatic and economic relations between India and the Czech Republic.

The meeting took place during the annual international security gathering held in Munich from 13 to 15 February 2026, which brings together world leaders, foreign ministers, and security experts to discuss global geopolitical challenges and international cooperation.

During their discussions, Jaishankar and Macinka explored ways to strengthen economic cooperation and defence collaboration between the two countries. Both sides also emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral engagement and deepening ties between India and Central European nations.

In a statement following the meeting, Jaishankar expressed optimism about the future of the relationship and indicated that he hopes to welcome the Czech foreign minister to India in the near future.

The meeting reflects India’s broader diplomatic outreach to Europe, particularly at a time when geopolitical shifts and supply-chain realignments are encouraging deeper partnerships between India and European countries. Engagements with Central and Eastern European partners such as the Czech Republic are becoming increasingly important in areas including industrial cooperation, defence technology, and trade.

The dialogue also comes at a time when India is expanding its engagement with the European Union and strengthening ties with individual EU member states. For the Czech Republic, India represents a significant partner in Asia, offering opportunities in sectors such as engineering, manufacturing, defence, and advanced technologies.

As both countries seek to diversify economic partnerships and enhance strategic cooperation, meetings such as this demonstrate the shared interest in building stronger India–Czech relations in the years ahead.
