Škoda Group & Tata AutoComp Form JV to Advance Railway Propulsion Tech in India

Tata AutoComp–Škoda Group JV, formalized in NewDelhi on July 9, 2025, is poised to revolutionize the Indian railway landscape. With multi‑million‑euro backing, cutting-edge European tech, and strong manufacturing expertise, it aligns seamlessly with India's ambitions for modern, self-reliant public transportation and positions the country as a future exporter of advanced rail systems.

Skoda Group is a leading Czech manufacturer of components and vehicles for public transport. On the other hand TATA AutoComp has a significant market position in providing systems and components for electric vehicles.

This JV complements Tata AutoComp’s ongoing efforts to diversify via strategic partnerships, including a JV with Sweden’s IAC for composites and collaborations in EV components. The company views JVs as a faster route to acquiring cutting-edge tech without lengthy in-house development.

Arvind Goel, Vice‑Chairman of Tata AutoComp said: “Our collaboration with Škoda Group is set to enhance our footprint in the Indian Railways and Metro sector by enabling the introduction of state‑of‑the‑art electrical propulsion systems and components.”

Skoda Group CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors Petr Novotny said,"Together with TATA AutoComp, we are bringing advanced technology and expertise to India, a testament to years of development and proven solutions in operation not only in the Czech Republic, but also in other European countries."

The JV represents a strategic convergence—combining Škoda’s propulsion mastery with Tata’s manufacturing excellence—to help India’s rail network leap forward in reliability, sustainability, and localisation.
