Czech Fashion Jewellery and Glass Companies Showcased Their Products in Tokyo

To strengthen the position of Czech glass and fashion jewellery in the Japanese market, two glassmaking companies and selected firms from the Czech Union of Glass and Fashion Jewellery Producers participated in the prestigious trade fair.

As part of the national pavilion at International Jewellery Tokyo 2025, experts from the Czech Union of Glass and Fashion Jewellery Producers presented traditional Czech glass jewellery, with a particular focus on handcrafted lamp beads. Representatives from companies Lucid, AgPlus, and JSB Bijoux also showcased their own collections in an effort to attract new customers.

Japan was once among the most important export markets for Czech glass jewellery. However, over the past two decades, the fragmentation of production and export activities has resulted in the loss of many long-standing business relationships. At the same time, low-cost Chinese competitors have gained a stronger foothold in Japan. Participation in this prestigious trade fair, now in its 37th edition and held from January 14–17 at Tokyo Big Sight, offered Czech fashion jewellery manufacturers a valuable opportunity to reconnect with former partners and establish new business contacts.

A similar situation exists for Czech glass. Established supply chains were disrupted at the end of the last decade when Meiwa, the largest Japanese importer of Czech glass, declared bankruptcy. To introduce their products to new potential customers, two glassworks—Jílek Glassworks from Kamenický Šenov and Novosad & Son from Harrachov—participated in the event. Collaborating with local partners, they exhibited at Lifestyle Week Tokyo 2025, which ran concurrently with IJT 2025 at the same venue.Participation in the fair was carried out within the framework of the NOVUMM 2 project, which supports Czech SMEs in entering and operating in foreign markets through participation in selected specialized exhibitions and trade fairs. These projects are co-financed by the European Union through the Operational Programme Technology and Applications for Competitiveness (OP TAK).
