Czech Firms Will Join European Space Mission To Study Venus

A consortium of Brno-based companies led by TRL Space has won a €2.6 million European Space Agency contract to develop a key instrument for the 2031 EnVision mission to Venus

The consortium, comprising TRL Space, SAWtronics, AerialComm, and G.L. Electronic, will design, produce, and test the electronics for the VenSpec-H infrared spectrometer, which will study the chemical composition of Venus’s atmosphere. This research will help scientists understand why Venus evolved into an inhospitable planet, in contrast to Earth, by investigating links between geological activity and atmospheric chemistry.

The mission is a joint effort between ESA and NASA. The Czech team will oversee the complete electronics workflow, from concept design to final assembly, producing several test kits and one flight-ready unit for the spacecraft.

Czech officials and company representatives hailed the contract as evidence of the nation’s ability to contribute to high-profile international missions. “This shows the Czech Republic can engage in complex projects with global impact and be a reliable partner,” said Václav Kobera of the Ministry of Transport. TRL Space director Petr Kapoun called it an important milestone, highlighting the firm’s ambition to be not just a supplier but a co-author of European scientific endeavours.
