Czech Optics and Photonics Showcased in Yokohama, Japan

Building on a successful presentation last year, representatives of Czech companies, research centers, and the Czech Optical Cluster once again participated in the prestigious OPIE trade fair as part of a joint national pavilion.

OPIE (Optics & Photonics International Exhibition) is a leading Japanese trade fair focused on optical and photonic technologies, annually showcasing the latest innovations in lasers, optical components, sensors, imaging systems, optical communications, and quantum technologies. Held in parallel with the international OPIC conference, the event not only provides opportunities to establish new business contacts, but also allows participants to engage with leading experts from renowned universities and research institutions.

Returning exhibitors included CRYTUR, Narran, and SQS Fiber Optics. Joining the pavilion for the first time, in cooperation with a local representative, was IQS Nano, a manufacturer of 3D printers based on two-photon polymerization technology. The HiLASE research center also presented its research capabilities and opportunities for international cooperation to Japanese experts. The exhibition also featured the Czech Optical Cluster, which brings together more than 40 entities active in optics and related technology fields.

Japan has long been one of the world’s key players in optics and photonics and continues to hold a strong position across a range of strategic segments. According to Fortune Business Insights, the global photonics market reached USD 1.05 trillion in 2025, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for 64% of the global market. Japan alone represents approximately 15% of the global market, underscoring the country’s importance not only as a technological leader, but also as one of the most significant markets for advanced photonic technologies.

Japan’s strengths are particularly evident in precision optics, optical components, laser systems, semiconductor applications, sensing technologies, and advanced imaging solutions. Market growth is further supported by rising demand in data infrastructure, artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced manufacturing.

For Czech companies, Japan represents an attractive opportunity not only from an export perspective in these fields, but also as a partner for integration into technologically demanding supply chains and for collaboration on joint research and development projects. Participation at OPIE therefore serves not only as a platform for presenting Czech expertise, but also as a practical gateway to building new partnerships in one of the world’s most advanced photonics markets.
