Sales of Residential Heating Systems Hit 15-Year Low in Czech Market

The Czech market for residential heating systems continues to face weak demand as households postpone investments in new equipment due to ongoing uncertainty over future energy prices.

Interest among Czech households in investing in new heating systems remains weak, with sales of residential heating units of up to 50 kilowatts (kW) falling to their lowest level in 15 years in 2025. According to the Association of Heating Technology Companies, the subdued market trend has continued throughout this year, showing little sign of a significant recovery.

Industry representatives attribute the slowdown primarily to ongoing uncertainty surrounding future prices of natural gas, electricity and biomass fuels. As a result, many households are postponing the replacement of ageing heating equipment, even when existing systems are approaching the end of their operational lifespan.

The trend has also contributed to the continued use of older solid-fuel boilers that no longer comply with current environmental standards. Since September 2024, the operation of first- and second-emission-class solid-fuel boilers has been prohibited in Czechia. Nevertheless, industry estimates indicate that more than 100,000 such units remain installed in households, with tens of thousands still serving as the primary source of heating.
