Millennial anxiety in a Soviet apartment block. The Lithuanian film Renovation has arrived in Czech cinemas, accompanied at the premieres by its director.
The Lithuanian film Renovation will enter Czech cinemas on October 16. The precise and multi-layered generational portrait of millennials was directed by 32-year-old Gabrielė Urbonaitė, who personally attended the premiere screenings in Brno and Prague on October 15 and 16. The film had its world premiere at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Proxima section, where it was warmly received by audiences, and has since been screened at festivals such as Sarajevo and Haugesund.
The main character of Renovation is Ilona, a young translator who has recently bought a panel apartment on the outskirts of Vilnius with her boyfriend. When an unexpected renovation of the building begins, it reveals not only cracks in the walls but also Ilona’s own inner doubts. As she approaches thirty, is she ready to settle down and start a family? And what does she truly want from life?
The film, which has earned the nickname “the Lithuanian Worst Person in the World,” will be released in Czech distribution by Artcam Films.
