Varistar, a Czech family-owned company, uses satellite data and data analysis to optimize agricultural inputs. The technology enables the precise application of fertilizers and pesticides, reducing environmental impact and increasing yields. The company serves hundreds of thousands of hectares in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and plans to expand into Central and Eastern Europe
The Czech family company Varistar is revolutionizing farming with smart technology — combining satellite data and advanced analytics to help farmers boost yields while reducing the use of fertilisers and pesticides.
Founded about a decade ago by two managers — one with agricultural expertise and the other with IT experience — Varistar identified a gap in the Czech market for localized, easy-to-use precision farming tools.
Their platform creates application maps based on satellite imagery, soil quality, elevation, and other data. These maps divide fields into production zones with different yield potentials, allowing for more precise, zone-specific dosing of inputs.
Today, Varistar serves around 200 farmers on more than 200,000 hectares of arable land in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Their data-driven approach helps reduce chemical usage, lower costs, and increase harvests by more than 9 %.
In 2025, Varistar launched Varistar Yield, a low-cost solution that gathers harvest data from any combine harvester. This enables even smaller farms to generate yield maps and fully leverage their production potential.
As a family business, co-owners Jan and Martina Semrád emphasize long-term thinking. They continuously reinvest in R&D (more than CZK 100 million so far), and offer their clients both software and advisory support.
