Sales of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic rose by 2.65 per cent year-on-year to 171,999 vehicles in the first three quarters of the year, according to information from the Car Importers Association. Škoda leads in the number of cars sold, with SUVs being the most popular class.
In September alone, car sales increased by six per cent. The share of electric cars in registrations rose to 4.2 percent thanks to subsidies.
The Škoda Auto brand is first with 58,268 cars sold, followed by Hyundai with 15,578 registrations and Toyota is third with 14,330 sales. Volkswagen, Kia and Dacia are next. The best-selling model continues to be the Skoda Octavia with 15,522 registrations, followed by the Skoda Karoq (8,039) and the Skoda Kodiaq (7,742).
SUVs are the most popular class with a share of 48.1 per cent, followed by the lower middle class with 16.3 per cent and small cars in third place with 8.5 per cent. Over 65 per cent of the cars sold had a petrol engine and 25.8 per cent had a diesel unit.
Sales of light commercial vehicles increased by five per cent to 16,803 cars. Renault leads with 2,543 vans sold, followed by Ford with 2,283 cars and Toyota in third place with 2,161 commercial vehicles sold. The most popular models are the Renault Master and Iveco Daily.
Truck registrations fell by 13.5 percent to 6,833 cars. However, they rose significantly by 22 per cent in September. Mercedes-Benz led the way with 1,328 vehicles, followed by Volvo and Scania.
Bus sales increased by almost 68 percent to 919 vehicles. Its sales then more than doubled in September. Iveco Bus is first with 412 registrations, followed by MAN and SOR.
Total new motorcycle registrations increased by 8.1 percent to 25,157 machines. In the ninth month, they then recorded an increase of 19.3 percent. Japan's Honda led the way with 5,894 motorcycles sold, followed by China's CF Moto with 2,539 machines and third Yamaha sold 1,684 motorcycles.
