CEZ Power Group is selling its Polish coal assets to the investment company ResInvest Group. The sale includes companies that own and operate two coal-fired power plants Skawina and Chorzów with combined heat and power generation. The settlement of the transaction is subject to the approval of the Polish Antimonopoly Authority. CEZ spokeswoman Alice Horáková said it in a press release today.
"ResInvest Group's offer was the most attractive of all the bids submitted, which was confirmed by an independent assessment of the value of the companies being sold. The resulting price exceeds the current cost of disposal of the assets in question in the CEZ Group," the spokesperson said.
CEZ bought the power plants in 2006 from the US company PSEG. The CEZ Skawina power plant is the second largest supplier of heat to Kraków and the city of Skawina, and the CEZ Chorzów power plant is one of the largest suppliers of heat to Katowice and other urban agglomerations in Silesia. Both plants also use biomass for part of their production and last year together they generated 1390 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity and 5649 terrajoules (TJ) of heat.
CEZ Produkty Energetyczne Polska and CEZ Polska are also part of the sale. CEZ Produkty Energetyczne Polska provides specialised support services in the field of management of energy by-products generated by the combustion of coal and biomass. CEZ Polska is the umbrella holding company for CEZ Chorzów and CEZ Skawina.
CEZ intends to continue to develop its advanced energy service companies (ESCOs) in Poland, including Elevion Group companies that offer comprehensive solutions for decarbonisation and energy efficiency.
ResInvest Group is a private trading and investment company that provides global supply to major European and Asian energy companies. It specializes in bulk substrates such as solid fuels, biomass, agricultural crops, ores or metals and is active in 12 countries.
