With this move, the Czech Republic has joined the Netherlands and five other European countries that have already adopted the provisional approval of the system.

“We approached the evaluation of the system with a sense of responsibility. Our experts consulted with international partners as well as representatives from Tesla. We evaluated the system primarily from the perspective of safety, which is a key consideration for us in this regard. The Czech Republic is among the European leaders in the field of autonomous driving technology. We want to create space for its development and gradual implementation while maintaining appropriate safety and regulatory oversight,” says Transportation Minister Ivan Bednárik.

According to the SAE International classification, FSD Supervised is a Level 2 system, meaning it provides only partial driving automation. The driver must therefore monitor both traffic and the system’s operation at all times and be prepared to take control immediately. Responsibility for driving remains entirely with the driver. The Ministry stated that in making its decision, it also took into account the experiences of countries where the system is already in use, as well as new technical information obtained during European negotiations.

The Czech Republic has taken the initiative and is actively promoting further steps aimed at harmonizing the rules for the safe use of the FSD Supervised system across the European Union. While EU-wide legislation is still being drafted, owners of compatible cars can already drive with the assistant on Czech roads.
