Kardi Ai will help monitor hearts in Romania

The Czech startup is expanding its certified long-term heart monitoring system to Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, and Slovakia.

Kardi Ai combines a chest strap, a mobile app, and its own AI model that can evaluate an ECG in near real time. Just five minutes after the measurement is complete, the user receives a medical report that is understandable to both them and their attending physician. The solution, which is currently used by more than three thousand users, has already helped detect hundreds of serious arrhythmias.

Thanks to its European MDR Class IIa certification, Kardi Ai is the only certified solution for long-term heart monitoring worldwide that meets the strict requirements for medical use.

Pilot testing is underway in selected hospitals in Romania, and the Medicover group is already taking steps towards wider deployment of the technology. The startup is also negotiating the inclusion of Kardi Ai in the preventive programs of Romanian health insurance companies.

"Slovakia was the first obvious choice for us because, as a Czech startup, the market there is closest to us, similar to Poland, where we were pleased with the positive feedback from the cardiology community. Romania and Bulgaria, on the other hand, are countries that have long been among those with the highest mortality rates from cardiovascular disease in Europe, so we see a great opportunity to help with prevention there," says Vlastimil Hrabal, CEO of Kardi Ai.

However, according to the startup, European expansion is just the beginning. In 2026, it wants to expand into markets in Asia and the Middle East and gradually continue into the North American market in the future. "The use of artificial intelligence in healthcare is on the rise, and Kardi Ai is a prime example of technology for supporting prevention, which has long been underestimated. The startup has a strong team, a proven product, and a clear vision. That's why I believe it has the potential to become a European leader in digital cardiology," says Jan Davídek, managing partner of Purple Ventures, which has previously supported Kardi Ai with an investment.

The technology enables the early detection of risky arrhythmias that might not be detected by routine short-term examinations, such as ECG or Holter monitoring. "Real-life monitoring over a longer period of time has a significant impact on early detection. We have identified complications in many patients that would otherwise have remained hidden and would probably only have manifested themselves in the future," says Tomáš Skála, cardiologist and co-founder of Kardi Ai.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in developed countries. Every year, 1.8 million people in Europe alone die from related health complications, including stroke and heart failure.

"Our ambition is to make heart disease prevention a normal part of life here and around the world, rather than a privilege reserved for those who have the time and money for repeated check-ups. That's why we've created a solution that virtually anyone can use. Simply, safely, anytime, and long-term," adds Hrabal.
