Czech nuclear engineering company ŠKODA JS has been selected by Rolls-Royce SMR to design and supply key reactor control systems for its small modular reactors (SMRs). The agreement strengthens the position of Czech industry in the international nuclear supply chain and creates opportunities for future deliveries to projects in Europe and worldwide.
ŠKODA JS brings decades of experience in the design, manufacture and qualification of control rod drive mechanisms for pressurised water reactors. The company was selected as a strategic supplier thanks to its specialised technical capabilities, which are available at only a limited number of companies in Europe.
The agreement includes prototype development, preparations for serial production and a framework for future global supply of the control systems. According to ŠKODA JS, future deliveries could represent recurring orders worth more than CZK 1 billion per small modular reactor.
The contract supports the development of the Czech nuclear engineering sector and strengthens industrial cooperation between the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. It is also relevant for the Nordic market, where interest in nuclear energy and small modular reactors is growing.
The partnership highlights the capabilities of Czech engineering companies to contribute to advanced nuclear projects and participate in international supply chains.
