Czech engineering company ŠKODA JS has been selected by Rolls-Royce SMR as a strategic supplier of key components for its small modular reactor (SMR) programme. The appointment represents a significant achievement for the Czech nuclear industry and further strengthens the country’s position within the global nuclear energy supply chain.
Rolls-Royce SMR has announced the selection of ŠKODA JS and South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility as strategic suppliers for critical nuclear island components, including reactor pressure vessel systems, for its future SMR projects. As part of the partnership, ŠKODA JS will participate in pre-production activities, design finalisation, and manufacturing readiness for some of the most important long-lead items in nuclear power plant construction. The decision highlights the company’s extensive expertise in manufacturing nuclear equipment and confirms its competitiveness in the international market. The cooperation will support upcoming Rolls-Royce SMR projects in the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic, including the planned deployment of SMRs at the Temelín site. For ŠKODA JS, the contract represents an important opportunity to deepen its nuclear know-how, expand its role in the rapidly growing SMR sector, and become an integral part of a global supply chain shaping the future of low-carbon energy generation.
