A new expert system, DendroNetwork, developed through the collaboration of CzechGlobe and the Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University (ICS MUNI), now provides daily updated maps of forest ecosystem conditions across the Czech Republic. As a key part of CzechGlobe’s research infrastructure, the platform dendronet.cz offers real-time insights to support environmental monitoring and forest management.
Forests cover over a third of the Czech Republic and play a vital role far beyond providing timber—they help maintain a healthy, functioning landscape. Climate change is placing increasing stress on forest ecosystems, yet until now, there was no system capable of monitoring these changes in real time. DendroNetwork, a groundbreaking Czech research infrastructure, uses advanced sensors and meteorological data to track the health, vitality, and drought stress of forests across the country, updating maps every 12 hours. This expert system, available at dendronet.cz, offers critical, real-time insights to support smarter forest management and adaptation to climate change. Developed by Czech scientists with international collaboration, the system is now expanding to support forest monitoring across Europe.
