Rolls-Royce SMR and ČEZ Group partner to deploy SMRs in the UK and Czech Republic, supporting clean energy and energy security with plans for up to 3 GW of power in Czechia.
Rolls-Royce SMR Limited and ČEZ Group have announced a strategic partnership to deploy small modular reactors (SMRs) in the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic. This collaboration will support the transition to clean energy across Europe, strengthening stability and security of power supply.
ČEZ Group will invest in Rolls-Royce SMR, acquiring approximately a 20% stake, which will help drive the development of SMR technology in Europe. Together, they plan to generate up to 3 GW of clean energy in the Czech Republic, with initial projects expected to begin as early as 2025. The partnership enhances ties between the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom and brings significant economic opportunities for local industry and employment.
Rolls-Royce SMR’s small modular reactors offer a stable, affordable, and emission-free energy source. Each unit has a capacity of 470 MWe, enough to power a million homes for up to 60 years, making this technology a vital contributor to Europe’s long-term sustainability and decarbonization goals.
