Czech Inflation Falls to Lowest Level Since 2016

Inflation slowed to 1.6% in January 2026

Annual inflation in the Czech Republic eased to 1.6% in January 2026, down from 2.1% in December, confirming preliminary estimates. This marks the lowest reading since November 2016. The slowdown was mainly driven by lower costs of clothing and footwear, which declined by 2.6% year-on-year compared to a 2.1% decrease in December, and transport prices, which fell by 1.6% after near stagnation in the previous month. Inflation also softened for food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing and utilities, as well as information and communication services. In contrast, prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco continued to rise at a faster pace, along with health services. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.9% in January, rebounding from a 0.3% decline in December.
