Czech Republic approves its new semiconductor strategy

The Czech Republic’s new National Semiconductor Strategy aims to boost local manufacturing, reduce foreign dependency, and align with the European Chips Act. By 2029, the goal is to triple the size of the semiconductor sector, driving economic growth and Innovation.

The Czech Republic has recently unveiled its National Semiconductor Strategy, aiming to bolster its position significantly within the global semiconductor value chain. This strategy is a response to the growing need for technological sovereignty and economic resilience, particularly in light of geopolitical tensions affecting major semiconductor production hubs in Southeast Asia.

A key objective of the strategy is to reduce dependency on foreign semiconductor manufacturing by enhancing local capabilities. The Czech government plans to triple the size of its semiconductor sector by 2029. This ambitious goal will be achieved through a series of targeted measures, including the establishment of a national competence center, increased investment in research and development, and the promotion of advanced technologies in exports.

The strategy aligns with the European Chips Act, emphasizing the importance of strategic autonomy for the European Union. By 2026, the Czech Republic aims to implement measures defined in the Act, such as creating a national competence center to integrate into the European research and innovation ecosystem. Additionally, the strategy focuses on increasing the number of skilled professionals in the semiconductor sector, addressing the current talent shortage through education and targeted migration policies.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the strategy will not only enhance the country’s semiconductor production capacity but also contribute to economic growth and higher living standards. The plan includes support for start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), fostering innovation and internationalization.

In summary, the Czech National Semiconductor Strategy represents a comprehensive approach to strengthening the country’s semiconductor industry. By leveraging its historical expertise and aligning with European initiatives, the Czech Republic aims to become a significant player in the semiconductor market, ensuring economic stability and technological advancement.
