Czech Republic to further support Wind energy

The Czech Republic is launching auctions to boost wind energy over the next three years, aiming to significantly increase overall capacity by 2030

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic has finalized and submitted for approval a government regulation that sets the amount of installed capacity eligible for operational support over the next three years. While solar power plants will still not receive operational support, there is a significant increase for wind power. Each year, 335 MW of new installed capacity will be supported, equivalent to the current total installed capacity in the Czech Republic.

The Ministry has revised the long-awaited amendment to the regulation on the development of supported energy sources after approximately a year and a half. This regulation is crucial for the renewable energy sector as it determines the amount of installed capacity that will receive operational support through auctions or green bonuses for smaller sources over the next three years.

According to the government regulation, the Ministry aims to significantly accelerate the construction of wind power plants in the Czech Republic. If approved, operational support for 335 MW of installed power will be offered annually in auctions for wind power plants from 2025 to 2027. The goal is to have around 1500 MW of wind power capacity by 2030. Currently, there are 340.7 MW of installed wind power capacity in the whole country.
