Czech businesses widen their search for opportunities in Vietnam

Czech businesses - spanning traditional sectors like energy and transport to cutting-edge fields such as aerospace, defense, and nuclear research - are increasingly exploring opportunities in Vietnam

On July 11, 2025, a business networking seminar in Hanoi, held during a visit by Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček, underscored this trend. Minister Vlček highlighted Vietnam as a key Southeast Asian trading partner, with bilateral trade surpassing US$2 billion in 2024 and growing at an estimated annual rate of US$200 million (approximately 4.5 billion Czech korun, based on current exchange rates). He praised Vietnam’s dynamic market, noting its over 7% average GDP growth in the past decade and its prime ASEAN location, making it a magnet for global businesses.

The seminar featured presentations from four Czech entities: PBS Group, a leader in aerospace and energy; Research Centre Řež, specializing in nuclear technologies; and law firms Brož Brož Vala and Pelikán Krofta Kohoutek, which provide expertise in immigration, investment, and work permits. Other Czech firms showed strong interest in Vietnam’s defense, transport, aviation, renewable energy, and mining sectors.

Ongoing Czech-invested projects in Vietnam include Škoda Auto’s planned automotive plant in Quang Ninh Province and the acquisition of a majority stake in the Mong Duong 2 power plant. To further boost collaboration, the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade is organizing events such as an Intergovernmental Committee meeting and a business forum in Hanoi to strengthen economic ties. Additionally, participation in Vietnam’s trade fairs, particularly the Vietnam Mining Expo 2026, aims to build lasting partnerships.

The seminar wrapped up with a B2B networking session, enabling direct talks on investment prospects. This event marked a pivotal moment in advancing broader, more effective economic cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.
