The reception aimed to strengthen the longstanding friendship, solidarity and mutual understanding between the peoples of Vietnam and the Czech Republic.

The event welcomed representatives of foreign consulates in Ho Chi Minh City, city leaders, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), business leaders, university representatives, filmmakers, Czech nationals and Vietnamese alumni and former residents of the Czech Republic. 

In his address, H.E. Mr. Lukáš Kaucký, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Vietnam, highlighted the important place of Czech-Vietnamese relations in the modern history of the Czech Republic. Dating back to the early 1950s, the relationship has developed through decades of friendship and fruitful cooperation. The year 2026 marks the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the arrival in Czechoslovakia of the first 100 Vietnamese children, known as the “Chrastava children”. Their arrival paved the way for later generations of Vietnamese people to settle in the Czech Republic.

The Ambassador noted that the Vietnamese community has made Czech-Vietnamese relations distinctive, with people-to-people ties remaining at the heart of bilateral relations.

Mr. Trần Văn Bảy, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, reaffirmed the city's commitment to supporting bilateral cooperation. He emphasized thatHo Chi Minh City stands ready to support and facilitate favourable conditions for Czech authorities, organisations and businesses to engage in exchanges, foster cooperation and implement concrete programmes and projects in the city.

Built on a strong foundation of traditional friendship nurtured over generations, relations between Ho Chi Minh City and the Czech Republic continue to grow, contributing to the broader Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.
