First Skoda automobile manufacturing plant launched in Vietnam

On March 26th, 2025, Thanh Cong Group inaugurated the first Skoda car plant in Vietnam and ASEAN, with a capacity of 120,000 vehicles per year. The project marks a key partnership with Skoda Auto and supports Vietnam’s goal of expanding local car production and developing its automotive industry.

Vietnam celebrated the inauguration of its first Skoda automobile manufacturing plant, marking a significant milestone in both the nation's automotive industry and regional development.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking Vietnamese officials, including Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, along with Czech Ambassador to Vietnam Hynek Kmoníček.

Located in Vietnam and operated by Thanh Cong Group, a leading Vietnamese automaker, this is the first Skoda manufacturing facility not only in the country but also in the ASEAN region. The plant boasts a designed production capacity of 120,000 vehicles annually and is equipped with modern production lines and advanced automation systems, aligning with international standards for quality and environmental sustainability.

The factory represents a strategic collaboration between TC Motor—under Thanh Cong Group—and Skoda Auto, a Czech brand with over 130 years of automotive expertise. This partnership is poised to bring high-quality European vehicles to the Vietnamese market.

In parallel, Vietnam is drafting a comprehensive strategy for automotive industry development, targeting a market volume of 1 to 1.1 million vehicles by 2030. The goal is for 70 percent of these vehicles to be domestically manufactured or assembled.

The country also aims to bolster its automotive supporting industries. By 2030, these sectors are expected to meet 55–60 percent of the local demand for components and parts, with an ambitious increase to 80–85 percent by 2045.
