In 2025, the Czech railway authority, Správa železnic, is set to make unprecedented investments in upgrading and expanding the nation’s railway infrastructure. With a budget of 62.7 billion Czech crowns, major projects like the Brno-Přerov line, station refurbishments, and high-speed rail developments will be given top priority to improve the transportation network.
In the upcoming year, Správa železnic will invest 62.7 billion Czech crowns in updating lines and stations—about one billion Czech crowns more than this year. A significant portion, around 39.3 billion Czech crowns, will go toward the construction of the first section of the Brno-Přerov line, which will eventually allow trains to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h.
Transport Minister Martin Kupka emphasized the significance of this project, pointing out that it represents a milestone with the launch of the high-speed rail link between Brno and Přerov. The European Train Control System (ETCS) will also be introduced across 622 kilometers of the corridor network.
In addition to track upgrades, the railway administration is focusing on the renovation and modernization of railway stations. Currently, around thirty stations are undergoing renovations, with another twenty set to start next year. Nearly 2.3 billion Czech crowns will be allocated for the repair and upgrading of these stations.
Another key initiative is the extension of the railway connection to Václav Havel Airport in Prague, along with the modernization of the section between Prague-Ruzyně and Kladno. The modernization of the cross-border rail link between Western Bohemia and Bavaria is also underway.
This year, 73 kilometers of tracks have already been modernized, with an additional 47 kilometers planned for the coming year. Preparations for future high-speed rail lines are moving forward, with half of the proposed 750 kilometers already designed. The final section of the high-speed line between Prague and Brno has also selected a designer, and geotechnical studies for the Moravská brána line have commenced.
With these significant investments, the Czech railway administrationis laying the groundwork for the future of the Czech railway system.
