The Czech industrial and defence group CSG has entered the space industry by purchasing a 9.5% stake in the Canadian company MDA Space, becoming its largest shareholder.
Based on the current market price, the value of the stake is estimated at approximately 620 million CAD; however, the group has not disclosed the actual purchase price. In the first half of this year, MDA Space increased its revenue by 33% year-over-year to 963 million CAD. CSG views the investment as a strategic expansion of its business in the field of defense and aerospace technologies, particularly given the growing importance of space technologies for security and defense.
CSG’s entry is intended to lay the groundwork for closer cooperation with MDA Space, which may include joint investments in manufacturing capacity in Europe, acquisitions, and support for the Canadian company’s international expansion. At the same time, MDA Space is planning further acquisitions to strengthen its market position. For CSG, the investment is part of a long-term strategy in an industry whose global economic significance is expected to grow significantly. The group has previously invested in smaller space companies in Germany and the United Kingdom through its Tech Horizons fund. A specialized team led by Ladislav Stahl, a former NATO advisor on space security, and supplemented by experts in investments and the Canadian market, will be responsible for the development of space activities.
