A medieval fortress in the small Czech village of Malešov became the unlikely meeting point for thousands of global fans of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a video game developed by Prague’s Warhorse Studios.
More than 2,500 visitors came to the fan festival, some traveling from as far as California, Canada, and China. Attendees immersed themselves in the world of the game through concerts, medieval-themed food and beer, archery, lockpicking, blacksmithing, and even alchemy-inspired drinks. Many arrived in elaborate costumes, while popular streamers and actors from the game’s cast took the stage. For Warhorse Studios, hosting the event at Malešov had special meaning, since the fortress features prominently in the upcoming Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Beyond entertainment, the fanfest demonstrated how a Czech role-playing game has transformed into a global cultural phenomenon. Warhorse’s hit has already sold millions of copies worldwide, and the sequel is driving both international sales and tourism in the historical regions where the story takes place. Local municipalities are now partnering with Warhorse through the “KCD Live” initiative, using the game’s popularity to attract visitors to Kutná Hora and other sites in central Bohemia. For North American audiences, the event highlights how a Central European studio has not only created a blockbuster RPG but also built a community that bridges continents—proof of the growing global influence of Czech game development.
