Inspired by the Canadian project, Czech non-profit organization Neposeda has decided to try and help homeless people in the Czech Republic.
Within the project, 40 people without homes got a one-time financial donation of 6000 CAD to see if that can help them get out of homelessness. The project targets people who have lost their homes maximum 2,5 years ago and do not have a serious alcohol addiction, as their chances to succeed in inclusion to the society are higher.
Czech Republic has one of the higher amount of people without permanent housing in the OECD. The project has been funded by social investors, with the hopes of similar results as the Canadian project in Vancouver – in terms of better living conditions for the people participating as well as savings in the governmental budget.
Social workers will be monitoring all participants for a year to be able to support them in their transition to more stable life. The participants are allowed to use the money in whatever way they decide to.
Experts are supportive of the project as they see it as a potential effective route to overcome barriers preventing homeless people from finding stable housing.
