Czech succesful startup Sewio was acquired by the U.S. company HID in early August.
Sewio produces chips for localization technology and also builds its own software on it. The company uses ultra-wideband (UWB) technology that allows data transmission while using verry little amount of energy. The technology has broad industrial applications, enhancing safety and efficiency through precise real-time tracking of people, materials, or forklifts. UWB gained popularity when Apple widely adopted it. The technology is now booming in the automotive industry and beyond.
Sewio had a succesfull 2023 with turnover of around 3.5 million USD. Company’s biggest clients are KIA, Volvo, Hyundai or Phillips and has branches or partners in UK, Germany, Spain or USA. HID, the acquiring company, has been successful in developing software and hardware that helps identify millions of people daily. Sewio has been growing rapidly and needed a strategic partner and when the acquisition offer from HID came up, it made a lot of sense to Sewio’s founder Milan Šimek. While the exact acquisition sum is unknown, it's estimated to be around 20 million USD. Sewio will integrate into HID's structure but will continue operating under the Sewio brand, retaining its key management.
