Meopta will produce and test advanced targeting systems for CV90 infantry vehicles, supplying over 500 assemblies for the Czech, Swedish, Danish, and Slovak armies under a new multi-year contract.
Czech
precision optics manufacturer Meopta will oversee the complete production and
testing of the UTAAS system, a unique targeting technology for CV90 infantry
fighting vehicles manufactured by BAE Systems, destined for the armed forces of
the Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, and Slovakia. Meopta secured this role
through a supply agreement with SAAB.
Jaroslava
Blažková, spokesperson for Meopta, announced that the contract covers the
delivery of more than 500 periscope assemblies by 2030. The subcontract
involves the production of key components for the CV90’s UTAAS fire control
system, where Meopta and SAAB act as subcontractors for BAE Systems.
In the
past, Meopta has supplied the Czech Army with a variety of equipment, including
a standalone optical sight with a reticle and an additional 3x magnification
collimator scope for assault rifles, a day sight with a backup collimator for
light machine guns, and a combined day/night driver's vision device for Pandur
armoured vehicles.
"The
contract for the production of the UTAAS targeting system is a logical
continuation of our cooperation with the military," said Rudolf Kodýtek,
Meopta’s Commercial Director. "The UTAAS system, developed by SAAB and
manufactured at our facilities, is intended for the highly adaptable, modern
CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, which have proven themselves in real combat
operations."
The modular
integrated UTAAS technology provides direct fire capabilities, a core
operational function. Thanks to this system, the gunner can aim independently
of the vehicle's movement, while the fire control system automatically adjusts
the barrel's position. In combat situations, this enables faster firing
compared to conventional targeting systems, giving the CV90 a critical tactical
advantage. "Meopta’s involvement in BAE Systems’ CV90 programme for the
Czech Army may open up additional business opportunities," added Blažková.
This
contract is not only significant for Meopta but also strategically important
for the entire Czech defence industry. "It is a five-year contract valued
at several hundred million Czech crowns annually," said Meopta’s CEO, Jan
Vymazal.
