Czech rail switch manufacturer unveiled a 230 km/h high-speed switch for diverging routes.

The switch is designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h in a straight direction and 230 km/h for diverging routes, measures nearly 70 metres in length and will be produced in a new facility.

The company DT - Výhybkárna a strojírna, a.s. today presented its first switch for high-speed lines. The switch is designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h in a straight direction and 230 km/h for diverging routes. This is the result of the company's own development.

“The switch presented today is a tangible outcome of our long-standing effort to prepare and offer a product of competitive technical quality, created in the Czech Republic, with the necessary added value,” stated the company's managing director, Marek Smolka.

In this context, the company also introduced its largest investment to date in manufacturing facilities. This consists of a new production hall measuring 118 × 46 metres, equipped with automated technology for pressing the ends of railway switch rails. The company did not disclose the investment amount. The hall is expected to be operational by the end of the year.

According to the company’s management, the reason for building the new hall was to ensure self-sufficiency in the production of a key component for the high-speed switch, namely the switch rail nearly 70 metres long. The hall will also replace the existing outdated equipment used for producing railway rails for switches on conventional lines.

DT - Výhybkárna a strojírna, a.s. supplies its products to approximately 30 countries. Regarding rapid switches on Czech railways, in 2007 a switch was installed at the Poříčany station, allowing travel in a diverging direction at 130 km/h.
