The minimum wage in the Czech Republic is expected to reach the level of 47% of the average earnings in the country by 2029. Parliament also approved the abolition of guaranteed wage levels in private companies, which set the lowest possible earnings for various professions.
For this year, the minimum monthly wage,
which is the lowest allowed wage in the Czech Republic, is set by the government
at 18,900 CZK gross. According to the approved amendment, the Ministry of
Labour estimates that it should increase to 28,000 CZK by 2029. Currently, the
minimum wage is approximately 41% of the average wage.
Parliament also approved the abolition of guaranteed
wage levels in private companies, which set the lowest possible earnings for
various professions. These will remain only in the public sector. This decision
has been criticized by the opposition and unions, who argue that it will harm
many employees because their earnings will not increase as quickly, and they
will not be guaranteed at least a minimum level.
The approved Labour Code will also allow
doctors in hospitals and paramedics to work up to 24-hour shifts. Members of
Parliament supported the amendment that allows this. Currently, doctors can
work up to 12 hours followed by an additional up to 12-hour overtime. There is
no extra pay for this, which is set to change with the introduction of full-day
shifts.
The supplement for state employees will be
a fixed 20% of the average hourly rate, and for employees with wages, it will
be at least 20%. Employees working under an agreement will also receive the
supplement.
