The slight increase in unemployment in July is a result of typical seasonal changes and due to reduced activity by companies in hiring new employees, which is typical for the summer months.
Unemployment in the Czech Republic increased to 3.8% in July this year,
which was 0.2 percentage points higher than in June and May. Last July,
unemployment in the Czech Republic was lower at 3.5%. The increase in
unemployment is attributed to the waning effect of the seasonal work boost.
The Labor Office (ÚP) reported this. In international comparison, unemployment
in the Czech Republic is the second lowest in the entire EU, the office noted.
At the end of July, there were 283,011 people unemployed in the Czech Republic,
which is 10,327 more than the previous month. According to the Labor Office (ÚP),
the slight increase in unemployment in July is a result of typical seasonal
changes.
“It is also due to reduced activity by companies in hiring new employees, which
is typical for the summer months. We are also seeing a beginning interest in
the labor market from recent graduates. Overall, the unemployment rate remains
low, and the Czech Republic continues to perform very well compared to other EU
countries,” commented Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka
(KDU-ČSL).
