Johan Pertl

Czech designer Johan Pertl is set to unveil his latest collection, FLOW, celebrating contemporary collectible design. Pertl, known for his innovative approach to glasswork, explores the dynamic beauty of natural processes in this new collection.

FLOW draws inspiration from the concept of fluidity and motion, capturing fleeting moments of movement frozen in glass. Each piece reflects the designer’s mastery of a sustainable glass-melting technique developed through years of experimentation in his studio near Světlá nad Sázavou. This method not only reduces energy consumption but also allows for unique forms to emerge organically, emphasizing the raw, untamed beauty of the material.

The collection includes a wall object, side table, and a coffee table. These objects are designed to interact with their surroundings, showcasing the interplay between light, structure, and material. The wall object, for example, features contrasting textures—one side displays a cracked, raw surface, while the other is polished and transparent, creating a captivating visual dialogue. The tables experiment with natural gradients and dynamic shapes, combining artistic freedom with functional design.

Pertl’s creative process incorporates wax modeling, enabling spontaneity and precision during shaping. Each piece is hand-molded, with the original forms destroyed in the production process, making every object entirely unique. By allowing natural forces and material characteristics to guide the design, Pertl achieves a balance between control and chance, resulting in works that feel alive and grounded in nature. In addition to the FLOW collection, Johan Pertl continues to work on bespoke projects tailored to clients‘ specific architectural needs. These unique pieces are designed to seamlessly integrate with their environments, enhancing spaces with their artistic presence and functional beauty. By collaborating closely with architects and clients, Pertl brings a distinctive vision to architectural projects, creating works that harmonize with both form and function.
