The processed food industry is among the key industries in the Czech Republic and meets around 95% of domestic food consumption. The meat and dairy industries are among the largest food producers. In 2022 there were 8 000 operating units in the food processing industry. The sector registered 90 000 employees in 2022. The size of Czech Republic’s food processing industry is U.S. $13.4 billion and the growth rate is expected around 1% per year. Total imports of consumer oriented food products in 2014 reached 5 billion USD and total exports US $3.9 billion. Most imports come from Germany, Poland, Slovakia and other European Union (EU) countries. Imports from the U.S. were U.S. $23.8 million in 2014.There are 1,267 producers of beverages including breweries, soft drink producers, wine and spirits producers and mineral water producers.
