The Communications and Information Ministry’s Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) announced the successful network trial of the Republic of Indonesia-1 Satellite (SATRIA-1) on Friday through a Zoom meeting.   Testers confirmed that SATRIA-1 successfully passed the integration test and is now connected to the internet.

The ministry said this development marked a significant milestone, indicating the satellite’s readiness to provide enhanced connectivity across Indonesia.   “The network performance is excellent. Hopefully, by early next year, SATRIA-1 will be ready to serve the public,” Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said, as quoted by Antara news agency.   Network trials were conducted on Thursday, around 1:30 p.m. in six cities: Manokwari, Jayapura, Ambon, Batam, Kupang and Banjarbaru.   In addition to Budi, BAKTI CEO Fadhilah Mathar, and satellite operator PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) CEO Adi Rahman Adiwoso joined the video conference to oversee the trial. Adi said this testing phase was part of the operational feasibility test.

“This Zoom session uses the SATRIA-1 satellite and its network. It is evident that everything is starting to run smoothly,” said Adi.   The PSN executive expressed optimism that the integration and activation trial of SATRIA-1 could be completed before the end of this year.   “We expect the technical aspects to be finalized by next week, followed by administrative procedures. Hopefully, we will have a Christmas gift for the nation,” Adi added.   SATRIA-1 was successfully launched in June and reached orbit at longitude 146 degrees east in November.
