Bratislava will finance the purchase of M4A1 assault rifles and accessories worth nearly $17.4 million from a grant allocated by the US through the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) fund for allies. The money is conditional on its use for the purchase of goods from US companies and for use in the military.
The Slovak army has a shortage of modern assault rifles. The Ministry of Defence plans to purchase up to almost 25,000 of these weapons, with the purchase from an American manufacturer being the first phase of the project. Deliveries of the M4A1 are planned for 2025.
The seller is Colt's Manufacturing Company, which is part of the Czech group Colt CZ.
