The cost of modernisation of domestic heating plants will reach approximately CZK 180bn by 2030. Heating Association (TS) chairman Mirek Topolánek stated that operators will have to replace old coal-burning technologies with new heat sources and heat distribution systems by 2030. Thermal power plants will mainly switch to natural gas, solid biomass and biomethane. The projects are financed by subsidies from the modernisation fund, in which heating plants have CZK 87.5bn at their disposal.
